July 24, 2024 –7 P.M. UPDATE
Current Status
As of 4 p.m. ET today, we project less than 1,500 USPTO employees remain offline due to the faulty CrowdStrike code.
At this time all remaining employees impacted by the CrowdStrike IT outage should be planning to visit a USPTO facility tomorrow (July 25) for onsite resolution or have a virtual appointment scheduled to get their laptop fixed. Virtual appointments are available from 6:30 -11 a.m. ET. You can find detailed information about onsite service and virtual appointments on our CrowdStrike outage FAQ webpage.
If you are one of the remaining employees who are still impacted, please call the IT service desk at 571-272-9000 or email servicedesk@uspto.gov. Phone lines will be open starting at 11 a.m. ET on Thursday, July 25.
We are ending the ability to claim outage-related time tomorrow. Employees still impacted will only be able to claim up to 4 hours of outage-related time. If you are in a situation that requires special consideration, please contact your BU head or deputy BU head. See the FAQs for more specific information on timekeeping.
We have plenty of IT personnel standing by to help any remaining impacted employees.
For more information on how to schedule appointments, how to deal with non-outage related IT problems, and other issues, please visit our FAQ Page or contact your direct supervisor.
Scam Caution
- Upon joining a virtual appointment, or receiving a call back, request that the technician confirm your workstation ID before proceeding with the call. Note, if the technician is unable to accurately repeat your workstation ID without your assistance (i.e. they ask you to confirm it) please end the call.
- Our IT technicians will never ask for payment information.
- Employees are not required to be on video for the call, though some IT personnel may ask to use video calling, such as FaceTime, so they can view your screen as they walk through instructions.
We will publish our next update tomorrow to the System 411 page.
All previously shared information is now available on the CrowdStrike outage FAQ webpage.
