Due to the unavailability of patent systems for all or a portion of the day on Monday, June 1, employees should record their time in one of the following ways outlined below. This guidance supersedes any previous guidance on recording time for the Monday, June 1, 2020 outage.

  • Patents employees on the IFP/IFS, 8-hour flexible or 8-hour fixed schedules who were scheduled to work on June 1 and were unable to work due to the outage, may claim up to 8 hours. Patents employees on fixed schedules (e.g. 5/4/9 and 4/10) and part time schedules who were scheduled to work on June 1 may claim up to the number of hours they were scheduled to work. Patents employees should use PPA code ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE (WEATHER & SAFETY) ANTIME-0000-051203)
  • For employees who were able to work for a portion of the day but were impacted in their efficiency by the outage, they may claim this portion of their day using PPA code OTHER TIME - NON-CLASSIFIED TIME ANTIME-0000-A00131.
  • An employee on preapproved leave (paid or unpaid) or other paid time off will remain in their leave or other paid time off status for the preapproved hours and will not receive administrative leave or non-production time in place of preapproved leave.

Additionally, the following applies to patent examiners and other production employees:

  • If patent examiners and other production employees have to recreate work lost due to this outage, a reasonable amount of non-examination or non-production time may be granted for the purposes of recreating lost work due to the outage. You should timely provide as much information as possible to your supervisor. Supervisors will consider all relevant circumstances to make a decision on a case-by-case basis. Patent examiners and other production employees should use PPA code PNC SPA-0000-090180.
